The African Conservation Foundation

Overview

The mission of the African Conservation Foundation (ACF) is unique. This charity integrates into communities in affected areas and helps local organizations protect their land and natural habitats. One hundred percent of the donations that you and Project Endangered make to ACF go directly to conservation efforts.

What Makes ACF Great

ACF believes in both healthy human communities and healthy ecosystems, which often go hand in hand. One of their projects focuses on saving the endangered African Forest Elephant and Cross River Gorilla from extinction. A major cause of the decline in elephant populations is the illegal ivory trade throughout Central Africa. The majority of the demand for ivory comes from Chinese crime syndicates, which drives poaching efforts.

Poaching not only harms African Forest Elephants and other elephant populations but also disrupts local communities and law enforcement. Cross River Gorilla populations, on the other hand, are threatened by the destruction of rainforests in Southwest Cameroon. These rainforests are rich in endemism and are among the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet. The significant biodiversity loss in this area is due to a lack of protection and regulation. Illegal logging and overfarming have destroyed the habitat of Cross River Gorillas and other species. One of ACF’s missions is to work with the local government in Cameroon to implement restrictions on these harmful activities.

What You Can Do

The easiest way to get involved and help protect these endangered species is through donations. By either donating directly to ACF or purchasing an Elephant Edition Hoodie or Sweatshirt, you can make a real difference. For those seeking deeper involvement, ACF offers volunteering opportunities, real-world training, and conservation safaris.
